Gate Welding Repair

A gate that drags, won't latch or has come off its hinge can usually be fixed on site, without taking the gate to a shop.

Before you call

  • Photos of the hinge side and the latch side
  • Roughly how wide the gate is
  • What it's made of, if you know (wrought iron, steel tube, aluminum)
  • Whether the gate is still hanging or is on the ground

Good to know

Heavy driveway gates can fall when a hinge lets go. If one is hanging by a single hinge, prop or tie it and keep kids and cars clear until it's fixed. Aluminum needs different welding equipment than steel, so say if the gate is aluminum.

Around Tulsa

In the Tulsa area, gate jobs range from iron gates on older Midtown homes to wide driveway gates in Broken Arrow, Owasso and Jenks subdivisions and pipe gates on ranch land. After a strong storm, say if the gate was hit by a falling limb or wind.

Questions

Gate & fence repair: common questions

Q01Can you make a new gate?

Ask when you call. Custom gates are built to measure, so the welder will want photos, sizes and what you want it to look like before quoting.

Q02My automatic gate stopped working. Can a welder fix it?

If a bracket, arm mount or hinge broke, yes. If the motor or controls failed, you'll need the gate opener company.

Q03How much will it cost?

The welder quotes after seeing it. Requests are free.

Q04Can a sagging gate be fixed, or does it need replacing?

If the frame is solid, a sag can often be fixed by repairing or replacing the hinges, adding a brace or re-hanging the gate. If the frame is rusted through or badly bent, the welder may suggest a new gate.

Q05Can you weld an aluminum gate?

Aluminum needs different welding equipment than steel. Say the gate is aluminum when you call so the welder can tell you if they can do it.

Q06Do I need to be home for a gate repair?

Usually someone should be there to show the welder the gate and agree on the price before work starts. Ask the welder when they call.

Q07A storm bent my gate. Can it be fixed?

Often. A bent frame can sometimes be straightened and re-welded, and broken hinges or posts replaced. If the frame is badly twisted, the welder may suggest a new gate. Photos help.
